The Health Index

Some conditions affect only women or women more than men.  Sometimes the reasons are obvious, when – for example – an illness affects organs only women have. Yet there are health conditions that are more common in women even though men can – and do – suffer from them as well. Examples are osteoporosis, thyroid conditions, urinary tract infections, anxiety and depression.

Some, but not all, of these conditions that are more prevalent in women than men are explained by the different hormonal make-up and cyclical hormonal changes in women of reproductive age. Just because our hormones play a role in many bodily functions and health conditions, that doesn’t mean that we are slaves to them. Through diet and lifestyle, we can influence and, to some extent, reign in our hormones.  A nutrition practitioner can show you how.
